Foreign Inflow to Be Adjusted

Minister Chan Chun Sing, the Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports said on Saturday that foreigner inflow will be constantly adjusted.  This is done so as to maximize the social benefit while minimizing social tensions as the government finds a balancing point between the two.   There is quite a bit of a social tension in the society as the large influx of foreigners are felt through traffic jams and overloading of the public services.   It is glad that the government is taking this into consideration and constantly adjusting the inflow to lessen the tensions.

Student False Report to Police

A student is currently under investigation for falsifying a police report saying that he was extorted of $250 by a woman.   He said that the woman tried to extort him for $250 after relieving him of his student EZ-link card at Blk 127 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6.   He had actually lost his card and was trying to cover this up from his parents.   Such a move is a crime and he is liable to a jail term of up to one year, or with a fine of up to $5,000, or both if found guilty.

I would like to make these points.  The Police and especially its hotline 999 is extremely crucial.  They are meant for the report of real crimes.   By tying up the resources of the police by making fake reports, you are actually hampering the police efforts in capturing other criminals and also it is a waste of tax payers money.  Help the Police Help Ourselves by being considerate citizens!   Losing an ezlink card is really a small case which the boy should simply tell his parents.  At most he will get some scolding and that's about it.  But by faking a police case, he is now in very serious troubles.

Singapore Relaxes Mandatory Life Sentences

The island state of Singapore has plans to scrap mandatory death sentences for drug offenders.   For those that cooperate with the Police and are only drug couriers, they may be able to avoid the mandatory death sentences.   Singapore death sentences are usually carried out by hanging the offender until death.   But with the growing awareness of mandatory death sentences, the government has been listening to feedback and has weigh the dangers of drug offenders versus the feedback from the Singapore society and had decided to relax the mandatory death sentences.

Lift Robber No Match for Elderly Lady

Do not think that the tiny little old lady is easy to bully.  Well this lift robber Yahya Ghani thought so and tried to rob the little old lady in the lift.   End result Old Lady 1 : Lift Robber 0.   When the Lift door closed and Yahya wanted to rob the old lady she held her bag tightly and step back.  Yahya this idiotic robber even punched her and managed to get hold of her bag for a while.   But with her shouting "Robbery", Yahya was caught and was given a well deserved 5 years imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane!

Casino Cap for Singaporeans

I am really glad to hear of the new Casino Visit Cap for Singaporeans who are financially vulnerable.   I really do not like the Casinos, best if we can get them away from our shores.   Be it local or foreigners, all deserve protection from the evils of gambling.

Two Uncles Fighting on the Bus

These two fellas should be old enough not to do such crazy things, fighting on the public bus, and what is more being videoed and youtubed!   One of them claim he was suffering from depression.   I don't that he seemed that depressed as compared to combative.

Quarrel over MRT Seat

The young lady gave up her seat for the more elderly woman who appeared to be in perfect health.   Instead of thanking her, she scold her instead and assume that it is her right that the young lady had to give up the seat to her.   She kept scolding until the young lady was fed up too and both started a shouting match.   I would say that elderly must not mean you are right.   Instead the elderly should be a model for the youth rather than being so unreasonable.

Screw Driver Versus Assault Rifle

A man managed to use a screw driver to rob another who had a SAR 21 Assault Rifle.   This incident is indeed kinda strange :(.   I really do not understand how an SAR 21, even though not the newest assault rifle can lost to a 20 cm long screw driver.

Singapore Man Shove Elderly Woman Down Bus

This horrible incident was filmed and the story quickly went viral.   The man defense was that he was a victim of social circumstances.  The old woman pressed the bell to align late and the bus overshot the bus stop when stopping.  Not a big deal at all.  But the man became outraged, threatened to beat up the old lady and shoved her off the bus.   He said he was suffering from clinical depression and was a victim of society.   I cannot accept such excuses.

Casino ban extended to those on financial aid, rental arrears

I have never liked our casinos although they do look very beautiful.   I still fee very strongly against casinos in Singapore.  I am glad to read that casino ban is extended to 15 000 Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.

I am hoping that one of these days, the casinos will be banned again.   Singapore has a very low jobless rate of about 2%, we certainly do not need the jobs that the casinos can offer.   There are a lot of people who say that even if Singaporeans can't gamble in Singapore, they can gamble elsewhere, then let them gamble elsewhere.  Let Singapore be Casino Free!

Playing Games is Not too Bad

When you parents complain that you are playing computer games for far too long, you can quote from this gentleman, Samart Benjamin Assarasakorn.   I totally agree with him, computer games are no longer shoot shoot shoot without using your brains.   Besides destressing, modern computer games also allow you to plan, manage and organize, something that would be very useful in future lives.   I love this news article :).

Sentosa Balloonza

Sentosa is a beautiful island touted as an attraction by Singapore.   Over the years, massive recreational and tourist attractions are being built there totally transforming the transquil island.   Time really passed, Sentosa is 40 years old and to celebrate it, a Sentosa Balloonza was launched with activities such as balloon sculpting workshops, balloon shows, and a Samba Malasa performance by students from the SIM Singapore Institute of Marketing.

Sentosa being one of Singapore's most famous tourist attractions, I certainly wish it Happy 40th Birthday and hope that it will continue to flourish, continue to attract visitors from Singapore and overseas and continue to thrill everyone with its beauty and attractions.

Book launched to encourage students to take up engineering

Singapore engineers are in demand, but there aren't too many of them.  A book is launched by the Deputy Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean to address this problem.   The book titled "One Degree, Many Choices" will be distributed to those students about to enter the universities.   The book traces the the pioneering batch of engineering students of 1985.

(

Zerah Colburn

Mechanical Engineer, 1832-1870)

It is good that engineers are being appreciated though I feel that pay maybe an issue, most engineers switch to management or other roles rather than advance through their engineering careers, which is a great pity.   Hopefully the recognition of engineers will correct this and provide more incentives for senior engineers to stay and excel in their respective fields.
